The Mathematical Institute of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso calls for applications for a tenure-track position beginning in 2014 in Mathematics The active research areas currently in the Institute are: Biomathematics, Dynamical Systems, Numerical Analysis, Number Theory, Probability, and Representation Theory. Applicants should have a Ph. D. Degree, a strong commitment to Teaching and Research, and a good disposition to speaking Spanish. Beside the activities related to the undergraduate studies, the Institute has Master and Ph.D. programs in Mathematics. The teaching load consists of 2 one-semester courses per year. Undergraduate courses must be taught in Spanish. If necessary, the Institute will provide support to enhance language and teaching skills. Candidates are expected to have a strong research potential, with publications indexed in ISI Web of Science or Social Sciences Citation Index, and to be able to obtain national or international research grants. The University provides also internal grants. In addition the University has an incentive for indexed publications that can reach the equivalent of US 4.000, in Chilean pesos, per publication. At the current exchange rate, the expected annual salary is approximately equivalent to US 34.000 (distributed in 12 months and chilean pesos). After a period of 2 to 4 years, tenure-track faculties must enter a process conducting to full tenure. The hierarchy level attained will depend on scientific production and the quality of teaching.
